Facial veins are dilated blood vessel. Facial veins can often be embarrassing. Most commonly found on the nose, cheeks and chin, facial veins can become easily inflamed by sun exposure, alcohol, spicy foods and certain topicals. Sometimes associated with rosacea, don’t let facial veining and redness be a cause for self-consciousness.
TYPES OF FACIAL VEINS
Also known as benign vascular lesions, facial veins come from a variety of different sources. Veins that appear on the cheeks and nose are referred to as telangiectasias. Telangiectasias are found in individuals who have been exposed to a large amount of sun rays, who suffer from rosacea or who use topical steroids. Spider angioma veins can appear anywhere on the body and are often fed directly by an arteriole. Spider angiomas occur spontaneously and can even be seen in childhood. It is often associated with pregnancy, oral contraceptive use or liver disease.

Laser Vein / Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment
Our Cynosure MPX Elite laser produces dynamic results on smaller spider veins. The laser delivers sufficient heat to essentially coagulate the tiny vessels upon contact. Over time they will become less visible as they get reabsorbed by the body. Cooling is applied throughout treatment to provide maximum comfort, and the procedure is very well-tolerated. We can easily treat both lighter and darker skin types- anywhere on the body with this state-of-the-art therapy. Laser vein treatment can be performed in our office in under an hour and there’s no down time, so you can continue with your daily routine without interruption. Most patients require a series of treatments, scheduled 6-8 weeks apart, to obtain optimal results. Our doctors will assess each individual’s specific areas of concern and recommend the most appropriate therapy to best address your needs.
Veinwave for Facial Veins
Veinwave is an FDA-approved procedure which uses thermocoagulation (heat) to safely and effectively treat facial veins in all skin types. Thermocoagulation heats and closes the spider veins instantly, in a procedure that takes 15-30 minutes and involves no downtime. Several sessions may be required depending on the severity of the condition. Veinwave is not recommended for those with epilepsy, bleeding disorders, pacemakers, who form keloids, or those who are pregnant. Patients need to refrain from self-tanning lotion for 14 days prior, and spray tan or tanning bed exposure for 30 days prior to treatment. Vein wave treatments are considered cosmetic and are not covered by insurance.
